DFI Session Two

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

I am not sure if today was useful for my 'teaching' as such. It was interesting to relook at Drive and Meet and to see what the shortcuts/smarter working platforms. These new methods will support as my Digital learning progresses and I can see how that workings on Google could help within the classroom. As well it will make somethings more collborative with the Syndicate. I have enjoyed that we are unpacking new things from Google together as a group as we can problem solve and talk about things that our happening in our classrooms.
  • What does the Learn look like at YOUR school?

Teacher time, student voice, student engagement, Parent voice and conversation, PB4L, Collaborative planning, sharing work celebrations both in class and online, karakia
  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

*Keep practising what I have learnt today- fail forward!
*I like the Keep aspect of having minutes or notes being taken duirng learning, meeting and then connecting with things again.
The tabs and group tabs learning was very good and timely as we do have alot of things open during the day (especiallly becasue we are lucky with the tech we have at our school ).
Meet was really fun and nice to not be talking about Covid while on there!
Looking at Calender also was worthwhile- practise practise!
  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Where I am at the moment I am not sure what I will share too much with the students espiecally with learning about the Ipads and hapara. I feel that at the moment this learning is more for myself and my colleagues. It could be that if I was teaching at a different level then there would alot of tips and hints to give out. As my son and daughter are both starting to become more Digitally aware it will be great to have these conversations with them and share my learning (role reversal!)
  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

I need to practise more to improve my confidence as because I do not have a digital class these skills might be forgotten by tomorrow. I think it is having time to play within Google is the key during downtime (haha) maybe with gmail, calendar and then with meet. Again I look forward to learning with my family around these areas.

  1. Nice Mel, I like your honesty (in true blog fashion) and how your writing has your own voice imprinted on it. Love the "fail forward", might need to take that.

  2. Kia ora ano Mel,
I loved your "fail forward" phrase too! I find myself looking forward to your blog each week to see your humorous take on what we have covered. But I think you and Rach had far too much fun recording your Google Meet... can't make DFI look too entertaining otherwise everyone will want to do it! Nā, M

  3. I also agree with Meryn. We had waaaaay too much fun recording the google meet. However, it was a great learning tool as to what could go wrong and what we needed to change in order to be able to see each other and we were able to get to the bottom of this. :D

Thanks for sharing your learnings on today - your school sounds like a pretty rad place! I have also taken a look on your class site which you shared on the power point. I really liked the FB idea with communicating to your whanau that way as well as through class dojo.

    See ya Tuesday!

    :D

  4. Kia ora Mel,
Loved the recording of your Meet with Rach, did you ever get to the bottom of the issues she was having with her display? I feel like I was watching a TV drama and I'll have to wait until the next episode to find out what happened!
I also really enjoyed reading the rest of your post - there may be somethings we cover that might not be useful for your learners, but they hopefully will be useful for you, both in a professional capacity and in your personal life.
I'm sure your kids will enjoy learning from you.
